Beacon Condos is a new development in North York city centre currently finishing construction. With over 1500 sq. ft of lower-level retail, this 35-storey mixed-use building will be a key component in the continuing intensification of the North York corridor.
The landscape concept is built upon creating a vibrant and interesting public realm on all four sides of the development. The site will include patterned paving, canopy trees, and integrated sculptural seating, to create a scaled pedestrian experience, while linking the landscape with the surrounding development. Stormwater is integrated through passive irrigation and permeable paving while vegetation is used to mitigate wind impacts. To further complement the public space, there is a shared 14-meter ROW on the north of the site (the “mews”), and a large court at the rear. Both of these will be shared spaces, enriching the landscape experience for both the residents and the surrounding community.
The mews is a pivotal part of the project. A pedestrian zone decorated with a concrete ribbon running throughout, this area sits between Beacon Condos and an adjacent condo development with ground-level retail spilling out from both sides. Features in the mews include planters/benches with grasses and serviceberries, sculptural bike racks, and windscreens with a tall grasses motif.
