Based on a preliminary concept prepared by the City, thinc design refined and advanced the design with input from the local Councillor, community representatives and various City departments to reinvigorate the park and provide an exciting, unique and vibrant park space in downtown Toronto.
Some of the key features include upgraded paving, streetscaping, site furnishings, programmable colour changing LED lighting, wood performance stage for special events, restoration of an architectural wall, custom stainless steel screens, and a new bosque of london plane trees in a structural soil cell system complete with an active and passive irrigation system.
Special consideration was required regarding the provision of facilities to accommodate special events, night time lighting / safety, use of high-end and durable materials, protection and incorporation of existing trees into the design and providing adequate soil volumes for new trees.
To complete the project in time for World Pride 2014 the team prepared the contract documents over a six week period to ensure the project could be tendered in the spring of 2013 for the June 2014 unveiling.
