thinc design developed master plans for revitalizing six parks in the Corktown community: Sackville Playground, Sumach-Shuter Parkette, Bright Street Playground, Little Trinity Church Lands, Percy Street Parkette, and 51 Power Street Dog Off-Leash Area. An active community in combination with many heritage buildings and spaces has led to an unmatched neighbourhood identity and character. At the same time, the community is evolving as it experiences significant development.
To harness this neighbourhood enthusiasm, thinc developed and led a carefully designed and extensive public consultation program, working with a stakeholder group and facilitating several public open houses and public workshops to guide the plan’s development.
Beyond assessing existing park infrastructure, estimating operating limitations, and determining park programming within Corktown, this project was an opportunity to gauge and improve linkages from Corktown open spaces to the emerging and changing neighbourhoods of West Don Lands and Regent Park.
We completed concept designs and cost estimates for all parks in 2015. thinc has been further retained to refine and implement the plans for Bright Street Playground, 51 Power Street Dog Off-Leash Area (completed 2015) and Sackville Park (expected completion 2018).
