Manitouwadge Recreation, Parks and Facilities Master Plan

thinc design, Mehak Kelly & Associates, and Oraclepoll Research prepared a Recreation, Parks and Facilities Master Plan for the Township of Manitouwadge. This Master Plan will guide decision making for the provision of recreation and parks services by providing long-term direction to support the needs and interests of community’s residents and visitors.
The Township of Manitouwadge is located in the Thunder Bay District of Northern Ontario. As a mining legacy settlement, the community is supplied with recreation facilities not normally seen in municipalities of their size (originally provided by the mining corporation). With population loss due to mining closures, recreation facilities and activities in the Township play a vital role in retaining and attracting residents and visitors, and ultimately the long-term sustainability of the community.
The Master Plan includes assessments for programs and events, facilities, parks, and service delivery. The Plan has a considered focus on the financial viability of the Township’s recreation assets, and supporting economic development through recreation tourism.
