This plan is a joint initiative between the Township and Destination Northern Ontario to provide a blueprint for future trail projects with a focus on trails-based tourism and support for all-season trail recreation.
A key component of the study is the inventory and mapping of informal trails that have been formed by decades of forestry and mining activity as well as hiking, snowmobile and canoe routes surrounding the community, many of which provide access to picturesque waterfalls and rivers.
The plan provides recommendations in support of hiking, mountain biking, skiing, snowshoeing, camping, snowmobile, off-highway vehicle and canoe tripping. It provides a strategy to help realize the community’s vision for improved trail connectivity within the Town as well as enhance linkages to surrounding communities. It looks at opportunities to enhance Manitouwadge as an outdoor recreation destination by identifying key projects associated with improved trail user experience and all season activities.
