thinc design developed a conceptual trail alignment for Morgan’s Trail located within Toronto’s Don Valley. The existing site includes an informal, overgrown connection between two trail systems adjacent to the site. The surrounding trails are well-used by hikers, dog-walkers, mountain bikers and natural environment enthusiasts. Over recent years increased user activity has lead to unsustainable trail use, unauthorized trail creation and damage to sensitive natural areas.
thinc design was retained by the City of Toronto to work with City staff to develop a proposed trail alignment for Morgan’s Trail. The goal for the trail and it’s surrounding area was to protect, restore and enhance the natural heritage while promoting public responsibility and appreciation for this significant natural area.
Key considerations such as topography, providing adequate rest stops, seating/viewing opportunities, signage, landscape restoration and proper trail access are some of the design elements addressed in the conceptual alignment for Morgan’s Trail.
