Based on a preliminary concept prepared by the City, thinc design refined and advanced the design with input from the local Councillor, community representatives and various City departments to reinvigorate the park and provide an exciting, unique and vibrant park space in downtown Toronto.
Key features include upgraded paving, streetscaping, site furnishings, programmable colour-changing LED lighting, a wood performance stage for special events, restoration of an architectural wall, custom stainless steel screens, and a new bosque of London plane trees in a structural soil cell system with active and passive irrigation.
The design had to accommodate special events, night-time lighting and safety, high-end and durable materials, the protection of existing trees, and adequate soil volumes for new trees.
To complete the project in time for World Pride 2014, the team prepared the contract documents over a six-week period so the project could be tendered in the spring of 2013 for the June 2014 unveiling.
