Brockton Recreation Master Services and Facilities Plan

Building on the direction established by the Municipality of Brockton’s 2011 plan and subsequent studies, this Recreation Master Services and Facilities Plan was developed to help guide Council and staff in providing recreation services over the next 10 years to 2033. The Plan addressed needs related to a range of indoor and outdoor facilities for sport, recreation, and arts/culture, including a strategy to replace the Walkerton Arena with a twin pad facility in terms of location, and the feasibility of co-locating it with an indoor community complex comprising other recreation facilities that are not part of existing supply. Community centres and parks outside the urban area of Walkerton were addressed in terms of their potential for increased service to the community.
The project work also included policy analysis; trends research; a public consultation program that included 19 interviews with stakeholders and telephone and online residents surveys; and a parkland hierarchy framework to rationalize the suitability of uses in parks in Brockton’s parks and open spaces.
