Seguin Township has established a 10-year Parks, Recreation & Culture Master Plan to guide the sustainable development of its parks, indoor facilities, trails, and water access points through 2036. Developed in collaboration with thinc design and Mehak, Kelly & Associates, this strategic framework proactively addresses the demands of a growing population, which is projected to reach approximately 18,000 permanent and seasonal residents by 2036. The plan’s priorities are directly informed by robust community feedback gathered via online surveys, student activity sheets, and public open houses.
To maximize local impact, the plan focuses on services that complement regional amenities like the upcoming Tamarack North Centre. Key infrastructure recommendations include assessing a new multi-use field house to replace the aging Rosseau Field House, building dedicated pickleball and tennis courts, and upgrading a primary ball diamond to serve as a high-quality hub. Furthermore, the plan prioritizes upgrading playground infrastructure to modern accessibility standards by replacing sand surfacing with engineered wood fibre or rubber at high-traffic locations, while exploring a potential youth skatepark or pump track partnership.
Finally, the plan introduces a structured park classification system (comprising Community, Neighbourhood, and Linear parks) and renames four major properties to better reflect complete community spaces. Backed by 101 flexible recommendations, the blueprint outlines administrative changes—such as adding departmental staff—to directly expand local recreation programming. Capital investments will be monitored annually during budget cycles, with a comprehensive progress review scheduled halfway through the 10-year timeline to ensure continued alignment with Seguin’s evolving needs.
